KKW Beauty Breaking Records By Millions
Kim Kardashian's highly anticipated beauty line, KKW Beauty, broke records yesterday making $14 million dollars in sales within the first three hours of release.
The newest makeup mogul began promotion for her Creme Contour & Highlighting Kit on June 13, 2017. The line was launched this past Wednesday at noon. By 3 p.m. all 300,000 units, which went for $48 before taxes and shipping, were sold.
With accusations of blackface and cultural appropriation floating around social media just a few days before her launch, sales were almost unpredictable. It was this promotional photo that stirred the controversy:
Social media users were angered by her darkened skin tone and wanted answers.
Kim responded to the allegations during an interview with The New York Times, "I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it."
She continued to say, "Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did. But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it."
In short, the issue was addressed and the product sold. It's safe to say Mrs. West is a true business woman.
